AD SHROFF MEMORIAL ELOCUTION COMPETITION

AD Shroff Memorial Elocution competition has been conducted by the Department of Economics in association with the Planning Forum of this college since 2017. This competition is sponsored by the Forum of free enterprises, a Mumbai based trust. a non-political and non-partisan organization established in 1956 by A D Shroff to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and democratic way of life. The Forum publishes booklets and leaflets, organises meetings and essay competitions to further its objects. The competition is being conducted since 1965 in memory of the late Mr A D Shroff, an eminent industrialist, banker and economist of India, with the object of encouraging college students to think and speak on economic and other subjects besides enabling them to display their oratory skills. The main intention of the competition is to motivate students to take active interest in different subjects related to economics. The Forum sends cash prizes, certificates and booklets for the winners every year.
The 55th AD Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition for degree students of the college was conducted on 2-09-2019.
Three topics were provided namely

1. Quest towards inclusive growth in India
2. Health for All: Reforming National Health Policy
3. Role of a Model Citizen in Indian Democracy.

from amongwhich the contestants were allowed to express their views within the prescribed time limit. Ten students who were shortlisted from among 20 contestants from various departments participated in the competition. Dr Seetha Thankappan, Former HOD and Prof in English, SNCW, Kollam, Dr Aparna S, Asst Professor, Dept of Economics S N College Kollam and Dr Adheesh U, Asst Professor, Dept of Malayalam were the panalists..The participants were allowed to express their views either in English or Malayalam for five minutes. Certificates and cash awards sponsored by the Forum of Rs 2500/-, 1500/- and Rs 1000/- were awarded to the first, second and third prize winners respectively.
