Musings...
I joined the department of music, SN College for Women, Kollam as a Lecturer, in the year 1983. Besides being a performer, the role of a teacher has given me great satisfaction. I was able to carry out my professional activities without affecting my teaching. Moreover, I feel through my experience that learning through performances added much to the quality of my teaching, as music is a performing art. The one and only Department of music in the one and only women's college under SN Trust has always shown a high graph in the academic and non academic activities and continues its spectacular run.
Dr. B Arundathi (Playback Singer and Carnatic Muscian)
Former Associate Professor in Music, SNCW
I'm Dr. N. Sreekala. I joined S.N.College for Women Kollam as a Pre-degree student ( II Group) in the 1973- 75.batch. I did my three- year Degree course in the same college with Zoology as my main subject and Chemistry & Botany as my subsidiaries. I have only fond memories of my experiences during these five years. The theory and practical classes were very interesting. Our batch was fortunate enough in having some of the best teachers of the time. When Prof. Sivaprasad was Principal of S.N.C.W we had an English Drama Club. Some of the best students of the Zoology Dept., including me were members of the club. The late Prof. Noelin Mendez and the late Prof. Pushpa Kumari were our groomers. Our Zoology teachers especially our tutor Prof. Susheela could not easily entertain the idea because Zoology students were supposed to be very studious. But they were all very loving teachers. I really enjoyed those days. After drama practice Noelin teacher and Pushpa teacher would buy us parippu vada and tea. The teacher-student relationship was more intense and sincere those days. I wish to use this opportunity to thank all my teachers of the Zoology and English departments for moulding us into responsible citizens. As I had a special interest in English literature my post graduation was in English Language and Literature at S.N.College Kollam (1978-1980). My first appointment as Junior Lecturer was in S.N.College for Women, Kollam in January 1981. I had the rare experience of working with my teachers who had taught me from pre- degree to master degree. Ours was a big department with twenty-five teachers at the time. After almost thirty-three years of service, I retired as Associate Professor and Head of the Department from S.N.College Chempazhanthy. I express my love and gratitude to my Alma Mater, the prestigious Sree Narayana College for Women, Kollam, both as a former student and former teacher.

Let the launch of the website, which is one of the most promising new additions to educational life of students and teachers, plug the former students to enhance their meaningful presence with their astounding life experiences, to contribute to the academic excellence of the existing and future generations of students and teachers of this college. As a former student of SNCW since 1968, who still actively associates with the Former Students Association of SNCW, and who made a mark in the international educational arena, I am sure that the website will succeed in connecting the SNCW to the growing wealth of technological tools in teaching, training, and research. My best wishes and blessings for the utilisation of the website.

Sree Narayana College for Women, my alma mater, identified a creative spark in me. I very fondly remember Santhakumari teacher, my Malayalam teacher who was the first to realize my potential to write, from an essay I had attempted for a class test. Her belief in my writing gave me the confidence to participate in many literary competitions. I still relish the pleasant memories of my SNCW days, one of the best years of my life. As I scale new heights in my writing career, I am reminiscent of my alma mater...

SN Women's college was and still is one of the best in Kollam. I had the opportunity to do both my Pre Degree and Degree in English Literature there. Equal importance was given to studies, research and extra-curricular activities at the college. The admin staff and the teachers were a talented and extremely supportive set of people who have left a definite mark on my thinking and life. Special mention to the students studying there at that time. They were one determined and driven group of girls ready to find their place in the world. Education delivers its best when given by such an esteemed institution.

The three years I studied in S N College for Women from 1961-1964 mark the period in my life which chiseled out the leader in me. Smt. E K Santhakumari, who was the Principal, and all my beloved teachers contributed commendably to give a leeway to me. By choosing me to represent the College for elocution competitions, nominating me as the Chairperson of Planning Forum, Literary and Debating Society, and finally electing me as the College Union Chairperson, the College built up my self- confidence. Whereas, my post graduate studies at S N College, Kollam remained uneventful, but for the appreciation I received from Prof. K. Velayudhan Nair and Prof.Vasudeva Iyer. I am grateful to the institution for the values I imbibed from it and the energy I received through the wholehearted acceptance given to me. No wonder, I am able to view life in its large canvas, without ignoring the blemishes that need to be addressed for improvement. If I have left any mark in my profession, as well as in the other spheres that opened up for me, it is definitely because of my dedicated teachers who carved me out to be who I am. I am totally indebted to my alma mater, S N College for Women, Kollam.

It is my great pleasure and privilege to have studied in this prestigious institution. Sree Narayana College for Women, with its team of dedicated and sincere teachers and calm atmosphere has played an instrumental role in moulding me. The values nurtured and the motivation, compassion and encouragement received from my SNCW family are unparallel. The library of SNCW and the influence it had on me is inexplicable. I, from the bottom of my heart extend my hearty thanks and gratitude to my dear SNCW family and wish all the very best for being the guiding light to shape the coming generations.

I am proud to be a former student of Sree Narayana College for Women Kollam. The Department of Music has been my second home and with the blessings of god and my dear teachers Dr.Arundathi, Dr.Bhavana and Smt.Vanaja, I have the privilege to be a part of this great department once again, now as a faculty member. The college gave me the base to become successful in my musical career. From being a Radio Jockey and Video Jockey in many radio and television channels and a dubbing artist in the film industry, I have at present made a humble beginning as a playback singer in the film industry. I owe SNCW, my teachers and friends in making the person who I am and I very fondly cherish my memories here as a student.
