Webinar on ‘Matilda effect and Women in
Science’ . |
The National Science Day was observed in Sree Narayana College for Women, Kollam on 25 th February 2021 and a webinar on ‘Matilda effect and Women in Science’ was organized by Science Club.
The webinar was inaugurated by our respected Principal Dr. Nisha J Tharayil. Dr.
S.K. Subhash, Co-ordinator, Science club welcomed the gathering. Dr. Sangeetha Chenampulli, Assistant Professor, Govt. Arts and Science College, Kozhikode was the resource person and gave a wonderful talk on ‘Matilda effect and Women in Science’. It was followed by an interactive session with the active participation of students and teachers. Dr.Poornima Vijayan, Member of Science Club delivered vote of thanks. |

Inter-Departmental Quiz Competition as part of Science day Celebrations |
As part of science day celebration, science club of our college in association with Department of Physics conducted an ‘Interdepartmental quiz competition’. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. S.K. Subhash, Science club coordinator, SNCW, Kollam. He properly addressed the theme of science day 2020 “Women in Science” and given a small talk on importance of women in science especially in research.
More than 50 students from various departments actively participated in quiz competition. Ms. Krishnendhu and Ms. Jayalekshmi from I DC Mathematics got first prize and Ms. Parvathy and Ms. Devu from Department of Physics got second prize. Cash awards were distributed to the winners by Mrs. Resmi S, HOD, Physics. |

Solar Eclipse:Why and How? |
Science club of our college conducted a District level seminar on ‘Astronomy and space related science’ for various school and college students in association with Depart of Physics, Energy conservation club and Break Through Science Society, Kollam.The programme was inaugurated by our respected University Senate member Dr. S. Sekharan, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, SNCW, Kollam followed by the Key note address by Mr. S. Vijayavn, Former Principal, Govt. ITI,
Kollam. He also gave a speech on the importance of space related science. Dr.Prasanth, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics also noted the importance and opportunities of space research.
Dr. Moncy V. John, Visiting Prof. M.G University gave a talk on ‘Evolution of Universe’ followed by the Talk on ‘Role of Astronomy in evolving Modern World view’ by Dr. P.N.Thankachan, State Secretary, BSS & Rtd. Asso. Prof., RIT, Kottayam. In the Afternoon session, K. Sivankutty, State Exe. Committee Member, BSS gave a talk on ‘Solar Eclipse; Why & How’. And it is followed by an interactive session. It is really a highly interactive session with active participation of students and teachers. |

Inter-Collegiate Quiz competition as part of Science day Celebrations |
The National Science Day observed in Sree Narayana College for Women, Kollam was organized by Science Club and supported by the Kerala State Council for Science and Technology and Environment (KSCSTE). The focal theme of the celebration was “Technology Transfer from Lab to Land for Sustainable Development”.
Dr. Raveendran, Former Principal of Sree Narayana College, Varkala and Emeritus Professor of
Sree Narayana College, Kollam inaugurated the function.
After the inaugural section we organized an intercollegiate quiz competition in which 28
teams were participated. Prof. Sajeesh Babu Former HOD and Associate Professor, Sree Narayana
College, Kollam was the Quiz Master. Prof. Sajeesh Babu has given away the prizes to the winners.

The event was organized by Science Club and is supported by the Kerala State Council for Science and Technology and Environment (KSCSTE). The focal theme of the celebration was “Technology Transfer from Lab to Land for Sustainable Development”.Dr. Raveendran, Former Principal of Sree Narayana College, Varkala and Emeritus Professor of Sree Narayana College, Kollam inaugurated the function. The function was presided by Dr. Nisha John Tharayil , Principal-in-charge of Sree Narayana College for Women. Dr. Subhash S.K was the programme coordinator and he welcomed the gathering. Dr. Nisha V, Staff Association Secretary and Associate Professor of Chemistry and Mr. Mahesh, Staff Association Vice President conveyed felicitations. Sayujya ,Member of Science Club delivered vote of thanks.
There was an Invited Talk by Dr. Raveendran on the focal theme “Technology Transfer from Lab to Land for Sustainable Development”. He is an experienced teacher and researcher. This was reflected in his talk. He said that development becomes sustainable only when its benefits reach the common man. The aim of the scientific world must on ending extreme poverty and hunger. He pointed out that developments has to be need based and location based.
there was an Inter collegiate competition for theme based power point presentation. The theme presentation was “Why Science” and there were 27 presentations. Most of the presentations were outstanding. Dr. Raveedran have given away the prizes to the winners.

In her talk she pointed on the fundamental aspects of research and the scientific writings. She focused the need to cultivate research aptitudes among graduate and post graduate students to for sustainable development. |
