Department of Home Science

The Department of Homescience was established in 1952, shortly after the establishment of the college and have since been functioning commendably. The Post Graduate Programme in Home Science was introduced in 1964 (M. Sc in Family Resource Management) following which the college was upgraded to a first grade institution.

The galaxy of eminent faculties who spearheaded the Department since its inception includes Prof. Gomathy Ammal, Prof. Uma. N, Prof. Meera Bai, Prof. Rema Bai, Prof. Zarina Abdul Hussain, Prof.Indira.K, Prof. Rajamoni, Dr.P.Valsala, Prof.Jolly.K. Kuriakose, Prof. Remani.B, Dr.M.Kusuma Kumari and Prof. Sheeja. C. Haran.

The Department is presently run by the third generation of faculties qualified in various fields of specialisation under the discipline.

While serving the primary goal of disseminating knowledge to students and inspiring them achieve their loftiest goals, the team of faculty members also serves to instill essential life skills to their wards through continuous guidance and mentorship.

The department in its continuous pursuit of excellence has always been in the limelight with its student luminaries bagging meritorious achievements in curricular and co - curricular arenas.

The department of Home Science reaches students across various disciplines within the college through the Open course programmes and Walk with the Scholar schemes.

The department runs an extension activity aimed at empowering the women to take up self employment and sustainable livelihood. The Tailoring and Embroidery Course of six months duration, offered on a nominal course fee, benefits women in and around the locality to take up tailoring as a gainful employment. The course is been successfully run by the department for more than two decades.

The department also delivers out - reach programmes for the benefit of the community through various platforms, fulfilling its social responsibility.
