Poster making competition,as part of World Ozone day celebrations

World Ozone Day was celebrated on by the Environmental club of Sree Narayan college Kollam on 16/09/2021 by organizing a poster making competition based on the theme” Save ozone layer Save Earth”. The contest was open for students of Sree Narayana college for women, Kollam and 12 students from different departments participated in the event. Devananda of I BSc Physics got the first Prize.

Photography contest ,as part of the World Environment day celebrations

Environmental club, Sree Narayana College for Women, Kollam has organized a photography contest on 5th June 2021 as part of the celebration of World Environment Day-2021. The contest was open for students of Sree Narayana college for women, Kollam. Time allotted to send the photograph through mail was 6AM to 6PM. 22 students from different departments participated in the contest. Mydhili. L. P. of IBA English got the first prize and Sherin Rajan, IBSc Physics got second prize.

Documentary show on plastic pollution

Environmental club organized a documentary show on plastic pollution. While plastic has many valuable uses, we have become addicted to single-use or disposable plastic — with severe environmental consequences. Around the world, one million plastic drinking bottles are purchased every minute, while up to 5 trillion single-use plastic bags are used worldwide every year. In total, half of all plastic produced is designed to be used only once — and then thrown away. The documentary was successful in creating an awareness among the students about the ill effects of plastic use and the threats it caused to the existence of life on Earth

Workshop on Paper bag making

Environmental club organized a workshop on “paper bag making”. This training workshop was not meant merely to teach students how to learn skills and earn some money; but it’s all about our commitment to the environment and saving our planet from the biggest menace (plastic). Ms. Jisha.S (Environmental club Coordinator) welcomed the resource person and the participants and explained the objectives of the training.  Dr.Rekha V.V (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Home Science, S.N. College for women, Kollam) was the resource person for this workshop. During the training the participants learnt to make different kinds of paper bags. Since paper bags cannot be used for carrying heavy items, she also taught to make nylon fabric bags which are more durable. Apart from teaching the bag making process, the resource person also discussed its marketing aspects.

World Wetlands day Celebration

The Encon Club in association with the Department of Botany and Nature and Biodiversity Clubs organized the World Wetlands Day Celebrations on 1st, 4th and 5th of February 2019, inaugurated by the Honourable Kollam Mayor Adv. Rajendra Babu. The Event was sponsored by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE). As part of the event a seminar on "Our Wetlands: Valued or Wasted" was organized. Dr. Renjan Mathew Varghese, State Director, WWF delivered the Keynote Address. The session was chaired by our respected Principal Dr. K. Anirudhan.

Technical Session II on "Biodiversity of Spidrers was handled by Dr R Karthikeyani,PDFWM,Centre for biodiversity & Forest Studies,Madurai Kamraj University.
