Celebration of World Space Week 2019

Department of chemistry, SNCW, Kollam celebrated ‘world space week 2019’ on 9/10/2019 in collaboration with VSSC, Thiruvananthapuram. A lecture on “Welcome to the fascinating space through ISRO” was delivered by Mr. Anish Samuel, Project Manager in the Avionics Area of GSLV MKIII launch vehicle, VSSC, ISRO, Thumba. Around 50 students (MSc and BSc) were attended the programme from SNCW, Kollam.

The inauguration of International Journal of Advanced Interdisciplinary Science (IJAIS) and release of 15th Issue of ‘Thanmathra’

Prof. Dr. Sabu Thomas, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, M G University, Kerala India had inaugurated IJAIS, an international online journal from Department of chemistry and Research committee, SN College for women, Kollam. The website of the journal has been launched its website on via. online mode. Felicitation speech by editorial team members – Dr. C. P. Vinod, N C L, Pune, Dr. Soney Varghese, NIT, Calicut, Dr. Agnieszha Dabrowska, Warsaw University, Poland, Dr. Sambhu Chithambaram, King Abdulaziz University, KSA and r. K.Murugan, Kerala State Biodiversity Board. Thereafter 15th Issue of ‘Thanmathra’, a yearly newsletter from Department of Chemistry has been released by Dr. Saju Pillai, Senior Scientist, NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram.

Technical session XII of PANLORE 2020

Technical session XII of PANLORE 2020, has been conducted by Department of Chemistry, SNCW. During the programme, Dr. K. Anirudhan, Principal, SNCW, released the 14th issue of ‘Thanmathra’, newsletter of Dept. of Chemistry. Before starting the session, Department of Chemistry handed over a memento to Ms. Greeshma Rajeevan to congratulate her for securing 3rd position in Kerala University BSC chemistry examination, 2019. The technical sessions were handled by resource persons from Biomedical technology wing, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram. The lecture series were started with presentation by Mrs. Resmi R. on the topic ‘Hydrogels for Biomedical Applications’. Second session has been engaged by Ms. Medha Surendranathon ‘Polymers for Biomedical Applications’.

International webinar on ‘How to publish scientific papers why you win or lose’

The webinar was conducted by Department of chemistry in Association with the Research committee. 100 national and international participants were actively involved in the programme. The one hour talk was delivered by Dr. Mohammad reza Seab, Invited lecturer, University of Tehran, Iran. The programme was a big success as it provided valuable introductions for beginners to write their first research article.

Invited lectures on ‘Smart Materials and Analytical Techniques’

The event has been inaugurated by Dr. Roy Joseph, Scientist G, Division of polymeric medical devices, Biomedical Technology Wing, Sree chitra thirunal institute of medical science and technology, Thiruvananthapuram.  In the morning session, lecture on ‘Analytical techniques’ has been delivered by Dr. Roy Joseph followed by a lecture on ‘Smart materials’ by Dr. Renjith. S. 50 students were attended the programme. In addition to students from Sree Narayana College for Women, MSc students from Sree Narayana College, Kollam and St. Gregorius College, Kottarakara has also been attended the event. In the afternoon session, an orientation class on ‘Research Awareness on students’ has been handled by Dr. Roy Joseph.

‘One day meal programme’- an yearly meal programme at Mundakkal agathi mandiram

The faculty of the Department of Chemistry went to the Agathi Mandiram and donated money for food. During the pandemic situation of Covid-19 there was a restriction in student participation and food distribution.

Academy of Chemistry Teachers Association (ACT ) workshop on syllabus revision 

A workshop on syllabus revision conducted by ACT was held at Department of chemistry SNCW Kollam. Dr. Sadasivan, University College, TVM gave guidance to the members to modify the syllabus of MSc Physical and Inorganic Chemistry practical.

International webinar on ‘Nanotechnology against COVID- 19’

As a part of International Webinar Series ‘Crossroads 2020’, organized by Sree Narayana College for women, Kollam in association with IQAC, a session on the topic ‘Nanotechnology against COVID-19’ was conducted by Department of chemistry, Sree Narayana College for women, Kollam. The session was handled by eminent academic researcher, Dr. Debora Puglia, University of Perugia, Italy.Dr. Debora Puglia delivered a relevant and informative lecture on the various aspects of the nanotechnology research to tackle the COVID-19. Around 160 national and international participants including faculty members, students and research scholars have attended the webinar.

International Year of Periodic Table (IYPT 2019) celebrations and release of 13th issue of Thanmathra

The 13th edition of THANMATHRA – Newsletter by the Post Graduate and Research Department of Chemistry was released by Dr. K. Anirudhan, Principal of S N College for Women. Thereafter, Quiz Based on Periodic Table was conducted. Head of the Department handed over cash awards to the winners of IYPT 2019 Quiz competition.

National Seminar on Front-line Approaches in Material Science and Computational Chemistry- MATCOM 2018

The Research and Postgraduate department of Chemistry organized a three day National seminar on Frontline Approaches in Material Science and Computational Chemistry (MATCOM-2018). The seminar was Co-sponsored by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), supported by ANERT and in association with Academy of Chemistry Teachers (ACT).

Exhibition on ‘Mystic Hoops-Catch Your Dreams at Affordable Price’

As a part of New year celebrations Second year BSc Chemistry students organized an Art and Craft Exhibition, ‘Mystic Hoops-Catch Your Dreams at Affordable Price'. The crafts “Dream catchers were made by Preethi Raj and Ashiya and glass paintings by Lekshmi J B of II BSc Chemistry. Teachers and students of all the departments visited and bought the craft items. The highlight of the exhibition was that all the items could get at affordable price.
